Find Your Move Forward: Free “Queen’s Gambit Challenge Stage 2” Opens for Female Players

Are you ready to grow your game and your confidence? FIDE, in partnership with its Women’s Commission (WOM), has just launched Stage 2 of the Queen’s Gambit Challenge – Intermediate Training, and registration is officially open as of August 11, 2025.

This isn’t just training—it’s a journey designed to elevate aspiring female players from federations at FIDE Levels 3, 4, and 5. Think of it as a powerful step towards representing Cyprus—and women’s chess—in international arenas like the Women’s Olympiad.

  • Completely free: quality chess education at zero cost.
  • Seven weeks of hands-on learning: expert online coaching tailored for serious students of the game.
  • Starts September 20, 2025, with registration closing on September 6, 2025.

Whether a graduate of Stage 1 or a fresh contender, this is your moment to deepen your skills, sharpen your strategic vision, and—most importantly—fuel your belief in possibility. As Dana Reizniece, FIDE Deputy Chair, puts it: “The Queen’s Gambit Challenge is not just about building chess skills, it’s also about building confidence. We want every girl and woman to feel that there’s a place for her in the chess world, no matter where she starts.”

Why it matters for Cyprus

Cyprus proudly sends a five-player women’s team to every Chess Olympiad. Programmes like the Queen’s Gambit Challenge can directly strengthen our current squad and prepare the next generation of talent. For our Olympiad players, it’s a chance to sharpen their skills before facing the world’s best. For ambitious young girls not yet on the team, it’s a rare opportunity to train at an international level, gain confidence, and prove they’re ready to wear the Cyprus badge. The stronger our pool of female players, the brighter our flag will shine on the global stage.

Kaissa Chess Club to Launch New Chess Academy in September

Kaissa Chess Club, one of the island’s most active chess communities, is set to launch its brand-new Chess Academy this September, offering a structured and inspiring start for young players.

The Academy will run weekly classes in several Nicosia-area learning centres, with groups tailored for complete beginners as well as those who already know the basics. Lessons will combine chess fundamentals with engaging activities aimed at building critical thinking, concentration, and problem-solving skills.

Training sessions will be available at:

  • Epitevma Learning Centre (Lakatamia)
  • Gnosis Private Learning Centre (Pera Chorio Nisou)
  • Harazo Learning Centre (Strovolos)

The launch comes at a time when youth chess in Cyprus is growing rapidly, with more parents seeing the game as a tool for both intellectual and personal development. Kaissa hopes the Academy will give children a pathway from learning the moves to confidently competing in tournaments.

Those interested are encouraged to register early, as spaces are limited.
